Maamme eteläisin tunturi Syöte ympäristöineen tunnetaan tykyn kuorruttamista puista, upeista maisemista ja mainioista reiteistä. Tunturia ympäröivät erämaiset kuusikkovaarat, joita raidoittavat rinnesuot ja rehevät puronotkot. Kansallispuiston monipuolisten luontotyyppien lajikirjoon kuuluvat kaikki suurpetomme sekä merikotka, kuukkeli, lapintiainen, metso, palokärki ja idänuunilintu, ja puroissa polskivat purotaimen ja saukko.
Merkittyjä hiihto- ja patikkareittejä on 122 kilometriä ja pyöräilyyn sopivia reittejä 150 kilometriä, joista osa kulkee Iso-Syotteen retkeilyalueella ja muilla lähialueilla. Vaellusta voi jatkaa UKK-reitille. Pärjänjoki on suosittu melonta- ja kalastuskohde mutta kuivina aikoina melko kivinen.
