Snow safety
Freeskiing, mountaineering, skimo, snowshoeing and snowmobiling all are great ways to explore the mountains in winter. There are real risk associated with exploring this type of terrain though. Proper education and good risk management can get you far, but in case the worst comes, it is best to be prepared with equipment you can trust. Shovel, beacon, probe, avy pack, snowsaw, and inclinometer are must haves. For us, we put our trust in Black Diamond and Pieps products when it's time to head out of bounds.
